"An excellent reference work on the subject."—Library JournalSuch a closeness to animals "creates the desire to understand them, and not just a little piece of them, but the whole animal." In such a venture good scientists employ all available tools and consequently "anthropomorphism is not only inevitable, it is a powerful tool."De Waal is convincing, but on this point he need not be overwhelmingly so since most scientists have no problem distinguishing between childish and humorous anthropomorphism, and that which is useful in providing anecdotal observations on animal behavior. Good book for basic car repair knowledge but it definitely a little dated. He starts out by mentioning that for most scientists, interest in their field began with a love for nature. A very interesting but strange book. Mark Wildyr is good at holding the readers interest. Dorling- Kindersley lives up to their great reputation showing in vivid, accurate detail how bugs really work. In every case he paints a portrait at once sensitive yet real. He kind of hinted that Tristan wasn’t happy and was having troubles in Upside Down. Though the maps are roughly the same size as the ones that come in the anniversary editionConcluding are fifteen essays on favorite anime, including Evangelion, Escaflowne, Sailor Moon, Patlabor, and Fullmetal Alchemist.Patrick Drazen is an anime historian who lives in Bloomington–Normal, Illinois.
. Examined are all of anime's major themes, styles, and conventions, plus the familiar tropes of giant robots, samurai, furry beasts, high school heroines, and gay/girl/fanboy love. "An excellent reference work on the subject."—Library Journal (starred review)For fans, culture watchers, and perplexed outsiders, this expanded edition offers an engaging tour of the anime megaverse, from older artistic traditions to the works of modern creators like Hayao Miyazaki, Katsuhiro Otomo, Satoshi Kon, and CLAMP
